Forex Charts - A Trader’s Vital Tool

Good forex charts are a vital tool for any forex trader. In our experience it should not be necessary to pay for your charting software as most good brokers these days provide a professional real time forex chart package to their clients for free, often subject to you placing a minimum number of trades per months. However, we do understand that some people may need to view a currency chart for the purposes of currency exchange rather than forex trading, so we have shown here some of our favourite free charting packages.
In our view the basic requirements of any professional charting package are that it enable you to:
- View multiple charts in a single window, for example if you are wanting to monitor a number of crosses of a particular currency to identify the best one to trade (e.g. EUR/USD, GBP/USD and AUD/USD)
- View forex real time charts, i.e. to see price changes as they are happening, rather than delayed by 15 mins or so.
- View any chart by both timeframe and period, for example to view an overall trend you may want to see 4 hour candles over a 3 month period, whereas for precise entries and exits you may want to view 15 min candles over just 1 day.
- Easily draw analytical tools on your charts, such as Fibonacci lines, and trend lines.
- Provide a clear view of both the price chart and at least 2 algorithmic indicators, such as RSI and MACD.
- In the case of the MACD indicator, you may wish to see both the line chart and the histogram views.
